The Friday Rundown with Gail

The Friday Rundown

Wrapping Up and Looking Ahead

As June quickly comes to an end, we have just a little over a week remaining in this month. Our eighth season of News in Motion concluded yesterday as we celebrated our four year anniversary, and I am officially on break until September. During this time, please support Lexi and Isaiah as they take over with "Young People Takeover," starting July 9, 2024, on our YouTube channel (www.YouTube.com/GailDudley) each Tuesday - Thursday in July at 7:25 AM.

While I’m on break from the broadcast, I’ll still be working with a few coaching and corporate clients through July. It will not be all work, because, just like in previous years, I plan to do something refreshing each day of July to celebrate my birthday. As I mentioned on News in Motion, here are a few activities I’m planning and would encourage you to add to your summer activities as well:

  • Take a weekend spa trip alone
  • Shop at a farmers’ market in a rural area
  • Learn how to dive off a high board
  • Attend an outdoor community play
  • Shop at an estate sale
  • Act as a tourist in Columbus and visit new places
  • Take a night swim in a lake
  • Train for a 5K
  • Visit a museum

Enjoy this Friday Rundown! Please note, there won't be any Rundown for the next two weeks, and we'll have only one or two in July, and none in August. Have a wonderful summer, and let me know if there's something special I should try during my birthday month in July.

~ Gail

Is Coffee Creamer Bad for You?

Check out this article from GoodRX. They share, "Most coffee creamers are highly processed and contain artificial ingredients, saturated fat, and high amounts of added sugar. For these reasons, coffee creamer is something you’re generally better off leaving out of your daily cup of joe." Can you live without your creamer?

From The White House

Fact Sheet to keep families together. President Biden believes that securing the border is essential. He also believes in expanding lawful pathways and keeping families together, and that immigrants who have been in the United States for decades, paying taxes and contributing to their communities, are part of the social fabric of our country.

Black Barbie: a documentary

A must watch on Netflix. "Discover the untold story of the first Black Barbie and the pivotal role three trailblazing women at Mattel had in creating a doll who looked like them.

Hands down this is a five star documentary.

The Legacy of Black Wall Street

"One hundred years after the Tulsa massacre, the powerful and tumultuous story of "Black Wall Street" is told by its founders and their descendants, as well as contemporary entrepreneurs and experts."

From the Desk of Gail Dudley, The Audacious Advocate:

As I shared on News in Motion, when watching the 2024 Republican National Convention (RNC) and Democratic National Convention (DNC), there are several key elements to observe that can provide insights into the upcoming presidential elections:

1. Keynote Speeches and Major Addresses

* Speakers: Pay attention to who is given prominent speaking slots. Keynote speakers often highlight the party's rising stars and influential figures.

* Content: Note the themes and messages emphasized in the speeches. This can indicate the party’s primary focus and strategy.

* Tone: Observe whether the tone is optimistic, aggressive, unifying, or divisive, as it reflects the party's approach to rallying its base and appealing to undecided voters.

2. Party Platforms

* Policy Positions: Review the official party platforms adopted at the conventions. These documents outline the party’s stance on key issues and priorities.

* Changes from Previous Platforms: Look for any significant shifts or new policies that have been introduced since the last convention.

3. Candidate Acceptance Speeches

* Vision and Priorities: The presidential and vice-presidential candidates’ acceptance speeches typically outline their vision for the country and major policy goals.

* Personal Stories: Candidates often share personal anecdotes to connect with voters on a more relatable level.

4. Unity and Internal Dynamics

* Party Unity: Notice signs of unity or division within the party. Watch for how different factions are represented and if there are any notable endorsements or criticisms.

* Handling of Controversies: See how the party addresses any internal conflicts or scandals.

5. Outreach and Inclusivity

* Diversity of Speakers: Examine the diversity among the speakers in terms of race, gender, age, and geographic representation.

* Appeals to Various Demographics: Watch for efforts to reach out to different voter demographics, such as minorities, young voters, and swing state residents.

6. Media Coverage and Public Perception

* Media Reactions: Follow how different media outlets cover the conventions and the immediate public reactions.

* Polls: Pay attention to any shifts in polling data before and after the conventions, as they can indicate the impact of the events on voter sentiment. Note: Do not rely on polls, but know what is being highlighted.

7. Policy Proposals and Promises

* Specific Plans: Listen for detailed policy proposals and how they address current issues such as the economy, healthcare, climate change, and foreign policy.

* Feasibility and Realism: Assess the feasibility of the proposed plans and whether they are backed by a clear strategy.

8. Campaign Strategy and Messaging

* Slogans and Themes: Identify the key slogans, mottos, and themes that will likely be central to the last leg of the campaign.

* Contrast with Opponent: Notice how each party positions itself against the other, highlighting contrasts in policies and leadership styles.

By focusing on these elements, you can gain a greater understanding of the strategies and priorities of each party as they head into the final stretch of the 2024 presidential campaign.
